PEACE + RAIN

standing outside, warm august rain soaks to the bone today
the dark green leaves and fresh cut grass, on swinging hammock lay
this summer i fell in love but now it's time to go away
we walked side by side, said goodbye, and on our last day...

we walked, through the fields, in the night, till the dawn gave her light
we heard the trees, heard them sway, heard them pray for what they always pray
they pray for peace, they pray for rain, to wash away, all our tears and pain
to break down, the wall of stone, around our hearts, and lead us all back home

october farm stands selling pumpkins by new england roads
the harvest festivals leave empty rows and old scarecrows
the falling leaves teach us all how to live and let go
my dog Kaya walks by my side and tells me what she knows

and we walked, to the lake and sat down by the edge on top of an old rock
it was cold and it was quiet and we listened to the waters talk
they prayed for peace, they prayed for rain, to wash away, all our tears and pain
to break down, the wall of stone, around our hearts, and lead us all back home

it's cold winter time and all the trees have gone to sleep
while most stand shivering, we've got to stand like evergreens
solstice revolution lets us know that there's still faith to keep
darkest hour, new moon rising, sacredness loves to be seen

and winter's walk isn't done, but with this new light, spring has just begun
i walk downstairs and out the door to listen to the rising sun
he prays for peace, he prays for rain, to wash away, all our tears and pain
to break down, the wall of stone, around our hearts, and lead us all back home

the brooks are running, kids are jumping, springtime's come around
the flowers rising thankful for the warm and softer ground
their song of liberation has a very quiet sound
and through all these changes, mother earth keeps on turning round

and she walks, and she spins, and all the seasons each go their own way
and through the years i better hear the same song that they always pray
they pray for peace, they pray for rain, to wash away, all our tears and pain
to break down, the wall of stone, around our hearts, and lead us all back home
